Local Nigg walks offer variety ... see the Dornoch Firth, Cromarty Firth
and Moray Firth from Nigg Hill which is within walking distance from the house.
Nigg Beach is a short drive or cycle away from the
house also.
North of Nigg is the picturesque harbour town of Portmahomack which is
well worth a visit.
Take the Nigg to Cromarty Ferry and
enjoy afternoon tea in the Cromarty cafes. Explore the village itself,
harbour and museums (see History Around Lower Pitcalnie).
You can also see
Dolphin Ecosse - a great
chance to see some of the local Bottlenose dolphin population.

Travel north to Tain and visit the
Glenmorangie Distillery for
a fascinating tour or whisky tasting for the connoisseurs!! Brambles Gift and
Coffee shop (just off the High Street) is a great place to take a break from
your Tain wanderings and sample their fine selection of bakery!!
South of Tain, walkers can enjoy Forest Walks
such as Aldie Burn and Tain Hill. Mountain bikers can enjoy an
energetic run through the Forest of Morangie which overlooks the Dornoch
Firth.
It is also worth mentioning Ben Wyvis
(1046 metres) which is located to the West (off the A835 road) - and a
challenge for the more serious-minded walker.
North of Tain, picturesque Dornoch is well worth a visit - with nice
cafes and fine shops. Dornoch Jail is located in the original town jail
building and is now a source for fine local pottery and gifts.
Further north, near Golspie is the Dunrobin Falconry
which houses a stunning collection of birds of prey and runs shows during the
summer months.
Another option is to ake the day-trip ferry to Orkney, following the East
Coast, past Dunrobin Castle.
For a trip further afield, travel to Inverness. South of Inverness is the world
famous Loch Ness where several Nessy visitors centres are located.
Fascinating Urquhart Castle also provides a background in history around
the Loch Ness/Highland region.
